I appologize for the lack of updates since university finished (if anyone still reads this XD) . I’ll try updating more frequently when I’m back to a stable routine.
This is a cross post from LJ.
So things are starting to drag a little at the flat. As the moving day gets closer, the mess is accumulating and I’m starting to lose sense of my goal. Manga and random magazines (hobby related), games and DVDs litter our hallway now. I plan on travelling light for my duration at Tina’s folks, so I’ll be selling a LOOOT of stuff. Anything not sold will probably return home to Fife. I’d greatly appreciate anyone who does buy from me when I do get round to posting my loot, as every penny made will go towards building a spaceship to return me to my home plannet Japan and my new laptop (which I really need for Japan - more on that later :P).
I had a job interview this morning. Although I’ve been hunting high and low for quite some time, this has been my first physical interview. After much dissapointment from phone interviews with banks, I feel more confident about this one. Working as an clerical admin for Strathclyde police could be just the oppertunity I need right now. I turned up to my interview 5 minutes early, after panicing and second guessing on where I was going (it was just paranoia - my keen sense of direction never fails me :D). I got the chance to wear my new suit; which makes me feel ever so important. I’ve been wearing that jacket with my hoody, which I should really stop, as the buttons are already looking a little loose :/ Despite my nervous hesitations, I feel I met the requirements sought after and should hear back this evening regarding their decision.
As many of you know, I finished university this year. It seemed to go by quite fast, although I’d wager a large factor was spending the entirety of second year drunk. The degree show was on Monday. Although I attended (for literally 5 minutes), my work wasn’t displayed. I was quite dissapointed by this obviously, largly because I have no intention of returning to university and thus losing an opportunity to have my work displayed, my also largly on the fact that I didn’t put the extra effort into finishing my animation after term finished. Still, at the end of the day, a degree is still a degree and I now look towards working on my portfolio for my innevitable venture into the games/animation industry in 2010.
Right after I return from Japan :P
Which I believe I’ve been quite vague with. Essentially, through Saturday classes which myself and Tina attend, we have been given the opportunity to visit Kunohe, a small village in Iwate prefecture in the north coast of Honshu. During this time, we are expected to corospond with the classes and learn/become involved in the evolving Japanese culture. What with my university being completelly over with, and Tina finding herself less enamoured with her couse, we decided a year out would be an incredible experience. Personally, visiting Japan has been something I’ve always dreamed about, so the opportunity to work there for a year was something I couldn’t pass by. As far as work is concerned, placements will be arranged before travelling there. Tina has decided she would like to work in the village cafe, whereas I’m interested in teaching English if that’s available. It’s quite possible that JET placements are already covering the area, but I feel that a year’s teaching experience, if available, would greatly benefit my CV, especially should I decide to teach animation/graphics at some point. I’ll have a little more info after the Matsuri, which is this Saturday in Wellington church (Hillhead) from 2pm onwards.
We will be leaving for Japan shortly after my 22nd birthday in January. I didn’t really do anything for my 21st, so I’d rather not spend my next one away from all my friends :P Another main deciding factor was Auchinawa. I’d rather be there to witness the awesomness that we’ve put so much hard work into.
As far as my laptop is concerned, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to use, what with becoming accustomed to my awesome PC. Although the spec is quite high (it was built to specification for 3D modelling/rendering), I don’t feel I could replace my desktop with it for a year. I also don’t think I’ll get through custom’s with it, what with the casing being split, it looks as though it’s been malicously tampered with. I really quite like the thought of a tablet laptop. Being able to sketch straight onto the screen would boost my animation and colouring times conciderably. My old laptop will be added to the ‘for sale’ pile at an insanely low price.
What else.. oh yeah! The complete fuckers that are British Telecom, are demanding £170 to prematurely end the flat’s internet and phone contract. I’m basic package for both (linerental + broadband), and although they said ‘..it’s in your contract‘, I haven’t actually signed anything. Does anyone (seriously though) have any experience with this sort of thing? Is it legal? Harkin? :P
Besides that, I’m now on 3 lots of medication for my ’stomach ulcer’. If symtoms persist after my meds run out (another 5 weeks) it’s assumed to be something else (read as: worse), and I get probe down my throat. Psyman reminds me, that there are definatelly worse places for a probe to be.. probing <__<
If you’ll excuse me for the evening then, I’ve got to dig out a lemon merangue recipe for a very special birthday boy ;)
